🚫 IMPORTANT NOTICE: FIREWORKS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED IN LA VETA 🚫

With the dry conditions and safety of our beautiful community in mind, the Town of La Veta wants to remind all residents and visitors that Huerfano County is currently under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions (effective March 31, 2026).

Please be aware that these restrictions strictly prohibit the use of ALL fireworks to protect our town from wildfire risks.

🎆 The Fireworks Ban: What You Need to Know
Zero Tolerance: The possession, discharge, or use of any type of fireworks or pyrotechnic devices—including sparklers—is completely banned.

Everywhere: This restriction applies to all public and private lands within the town and county.

No Exceptions: The ban does not differentiate between "lawful" use and negligent use. All fireworks activity is prohibited.

🔥 Other Key Stage 1 Restrictions Include:
Campfires: Prohibited except within designated fire grates in developed campgrounds/picnic grounds, or at private residences within an area cleared at least 6 feet of all flammable materials. (Gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel devices are permitted).

Smoking: Only allowed within enclosed vehicles/buildings, developed recreation sites, or in an area at least 3 feet in diameter cleared of all flammable materials.

Equipment: Chainsaws must have approved spark arresters, and you must carry a fire extinguisher and a round-point shovel. Welding or operating torches requires a 10-foot cleared radius and a pressurized extinguisher.

⚠️ Fines & Liabilities
Violations of these restrictions are taken very seriously.

Violators face a fine of up to $1,000. These fines can be issued by Huerfano County.

Anyone who negligently or willfully starts a wildland fire can be held personally responsible for the total cost of fighting that fire.

These restrictions will remain in place until officially rescinded by the Huerfano County Board of County Commissioners. Let’s work together to keep La Veta and Huerfano County safe! 🌲❤️
